Update:
Work started today with another CMHC problem. This time the problem is still unknown after a full day. One of the drives, the SCSI backplane, the NIC or God knows what else was and is behaving erratically. My boss has ordered a replacement part for everything listed above and will be installing them tomorrow until (hopefully) the culprit is found. Since these are very specialized parts, a trip to Worst Buy or Rat Shack just doesn't cut it. They all have to be overnighted in. Woe are the legacy system struggles!
